Volunteering in Nepal
You want to travel to Nepal and at the same time do some good for yourself, your CV and everyone else?
Search no further: VHS Bhaktapur offers a variety of possibilities for the creative and socially engaged traveller in the form of internship and volunteer programmes. Here you get the chance to work on your own exciting projects, try out new things, meet interesting people and get to know a new culture, possibly a new language and most certainly yourself in a whole new way. You will gain unique insights into the everyday life and culture of the people in Nepal. What makes your stay with VHS so special, is the immersion into the daily life, the close encounter with Nepal’s religion(s) and language(s) as well as getting to know the workings of a German language school/community learning center abroad. Apart from that, VHS Bhaktapur is characterised by its one-of-a-kind relaxed and friendly working climate and an open, hearty and multi-cultural atmosphere.
Internship
In order to qualify for an internship programme at VHS Bhaktapur, you need a university background in DaF (German as a foreign language), German language or teaching. Unfortunately, we cannot offer payment other than the unique experiences that you will much likely make during your stay here with VHS. Your tasks will cover teaching language classes (A2-B2) and working on various projects together with our volunteers (like friday events, our annual Christmas party etc.) or your own (study related) projects – on your own or with your coordinators. At VHS, we have home-made lunch together every day, and if you are hungry in the mornings, we even offer breakfast, as well as all the Nepali tea you can drink. Only your accommodation has to be paid, and in terms of that we offer you two different options: you can choose to either stay with our friendly guest family or in a guest house (which you will possibly share with other VHS volunteers or interns). Read more about the two possibilities below.
Volunteer programme
As a volunteer at VHS you have various tasks: you could for instance lead your very own conversation class with our Nepali students of German language. You could also plan and develop your own projects (like friday events and workshops, or our annual Christmas party etc.) or take care and update our social media channels. Also, you can support our Nepali German teachers in their everyday work. While working on projects, you’re free to express yourself creatively and come up with your own ideas – VHS and your coordinators will do their best to support you in everything you do. Also, there will always be the opportunity of exciting and extraordinary activities and adventures, day tours and trips as well as loads of fun!
Did we manage to get your attention? Do you have further questions? You’re welcome to contact us or just apply directly (or download our info pack for new volunteers and interns below)! Please send your CV and a motivational letter in English to info@vhsbhaktapur.org.
