VHS Bhaktapur is a community-based educational institution dedicated to German language education, intercultural learning, and youth empowerment in Nepal. The institution operates in alignment with European educational standards and internationally recognized frameworks, ensuring transparency, standardization, and academic integrity across all academic and examination-related activities.
Founded in 2011 by Saroj Bastola, who has continuously led the organization since its establishment, VHS Bhaktapur has developed into a trusted educational and examination partner at both national and international levels, with a strong focus on institutional reliability and international cooperation.
German Language Education
VHS Bhaktapur provides German language education from A1 to B2 levels, fully aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The programs are designed to support systematic language development across listening, reading, writing, and speaking, preparing learners for academic, professional, and mobility-related pathways.
We apply modern, learner-centered, and action-oriented approaches to language education, integrating communicative, competency-based, and intercultural methodologies. Language instruction goes beyond traditional skills training and reflects current European didactic principles and best practices in contemporary language education.
ÖSD German Language Examinations
VHS Bhaktapur serves as the founding institution and principal administrative authority for ÖSD (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch) German language examinations in Nepal. It operates the primary ÖSD Exam Center and is responsible for the coordination, administration, and quality assurance of ÖSD examinations conducted within its institutional framework.
While VHS Bhaktapur provides CEFR-aligned German language education, ÖSD examinations are administered independently under standardized procedures in strict compliance with ÖSD Austria regulations, including examiner qualification requirements, data protection standards, and quality control mechanisms. This clear separation ensures examination integrity and international recognition.
Our Centers & Locations
Bhaktapur – Main Center
The Bhaktapur location serves as the main academic center and hosts the primary ÖSD Exam Center, functioning as the institutional and administrative hub for all ÖSD-related activities in Nepal.
Kathmandu – Official Branch
VHS Kathmandu operates as an official branch of VHS Bhaktapur, established to extend access to German language education and related academic activities in Kathmandu and surrounding regions. The branch functions under the academic leadership, administrative supervision, and quality assurance framework of the main institution. All programs and ÖSD-related activities coordinated at this location follow the same standards, policies, and procedures defined by VHS Bhaktapur and ÖSD Austria.
Professional Development & International Engagement
In addition to learner-focused programs, VHS Bhaktapur contributes to the professional development of German language educators through DaF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) workshops and structured teacher training programs. These initiatives support methodological development, assessment literacy, and CEFR- and ÖSD-oriented teaching practices.
We also serve as an international volunteering and exchange platform, offering structured volunteering opportunities for German and non-German youth from abroad. These programs promote intercultural dialogue, social engagement, and mutual learning within a regulated and supportive institutional environment.
Institutional Culture & Youth Empowerment
VHS Bhaktapur is characterized by a professional yet family-oriented working environment, fostering collaboration, responsibility, and continuous development among learners, educators, volunteers, and staff. This institutional culture supports sustainable quality and long-term engagement.
As an empowering hub for youth, VHS Bhaktapur supports young people in developing language competence, intercultural awareness, confidence, and responsibility, enabling meaningful participation in international education, mobility, and professional life.
