Under the leadership of the architect Siegmar and with the help of a very committed international team it was possible to develop a modular, very flexible, earthquake-resistant type of building which is suitable for rural and mountainous areas in Nepal. Last details are dealt with at the moment. The building can be constructed within a week, using local available materials. The roof which protects from the monsoon rains will be the first part to be built whereas the rest of the building can be completed afterwards.

The construction project is divided into 4 steps:

Phase 1A: Planning an earthquake-proof residential house to be build very quickly and cost-effective in Nepalese conditions by using naturally occurring material (completion of skeleton construction and roof in one week – May 2015)

Phase Ib:Analysis of the situation and check up on selected families regarding their needs beyond the building project. (May 2015)

Phase II: Cleaning the property of rubble in order to prepare the site for construction, constructions survey on leveling and foundation according to a geological survey, dealing with ways of supply and disposal, establishing a list of materials needed and tasks to fulfill, making preparations for ordering goods, assessing costs and financial support, dealing with questions of transport and delivery to the properties (mid-May to mid-June)

Phase III: Building the skeleton construction including delivery of all building materials; building the basis, roof structure made of wood and bamboo, roof covering of corrugated metal or during the monsoon season a plastic tarpaulin, installation of all necessary devices regarding supply and disposal (mid-June to end of June)

Phase IV: building phase during rainy season – building of exterior walls made of bamboo-clay construction, insulation of the unfinished floor and roof structure, wood paneling, windows and exterior door, necessary installations, construction of interior walls and floor, insulation of walls, lining of walls with stones of destroyed buildings in order to keep the architecture according to Nepalese lifestyle and landscape, adaptation of outdoor facilities, building of stables,…. (July to September 2015)

Besides the building projects we are providing families in need with support in various ways, e.g. with school fees, a new cow for self-supply, reopening their family businesses – wherever we can, we happily do our best to help. (April 2015-January 2016)
